Drug Addiction – Impact on Performance

Drug addiction affects all social classes and professions – poor and wealthy, educated and uneducated, employed and unemployed individuals are affected. The performance-enhancing effects of certain drugs and pharmaceuticals are frequently discussed in the media, while the legality or criminality of the consumption of many lesser-known substances is often of secondary importance. While certain pharmaceutical products are legally available and approved for use, the same substances may be prohibited as doping agents in competitive sports. Nevertheless, their consumption would not constitute an offense under the Narcotics Act, but would only be relevant under sports law, and therefore does not require proof by our Stuttgart detectives (competitive athletes are, upon request, subject to official testing anyway).

The situation is significantly different with drugs such as heroin, cocaine, ecstasy, and similar substances in connection with employment relationships or custody matters. As a result, the thoughts of a drug user revolve more around obtaining new drugs than around their private or professional life.
